Sports

At St James we strongly believe in the benefits of regular exercise and sporting activities. Through participation in them we aim to improve pupils confidence, self-esteem, independence as well as physical skills and well being. We feel it is vitally important to offer all our children the opportunity to participate in and enjoy a wide range of sporting opportunities. In addition to the full range of learning offered through curriculum PE we offer a wide range of extra-curricular sporting activities.

We Won!

We are extremely proud to announce that our football team won the Hartley Cup

Tag Rugby

Held over 2 nights the Tag rugby team played 8 games against teams from all over Burnley. The children showed great sportsmanship and teamwork and won or drew most of their matches.

We are now waiting to see if we have made it through to the next stage of the competition.

Cross country

A team of boys and girls entered the elite cross country race at Towneley park. The children were fantastic and ran a new course along with over 300 other children. Robbie came second in the boys race and Jack 24th which means both boys have been chosen to represent Burnley schools in the area finals.

Well done to them and to all the others you were amazing.

Gymnastics competitions

A team of years 5 and 6 and a team from year 3 and 4 competed at The Best centre in the Burnley schools Gymnastics competition.

Year 5 and 6 came 4th. Both teams were a credit to the school their sportsmanship and general behaviour were excellent. well done we are really proud of you.

Amputee Football

On Friday 5th February School was visited by some inspirational sportsmen. Two members of the Great Britain Amputee Football Team came. They delivered a worship to the whole School and then worked with a class from KS1 and one from KS2. The children had the opportunity to try Football using crutches like the amputees.

All the children understood the courage the team show every day and were in awe of the men and their achievements.

We combined literacy with sport when Year 6 wrote biographies.

We were visited by a local famous ex-professional footballer Willie Irvine, who was celebrating holding the highest goalscoring record for Burnley for the last 50 years. He brought his commemoration plaque and also brought in a cap he earned when playing for Northern Ireland.
