Disability Awareness Programme
Burnley FC in the Community are regular visitors to our school and work with our children in many different capacities. We have Mr Jack Mival, he is from BFC in the Community and works with our Year 5 children for both PE and as a Teaching Assistant- he’s an excellent Mathematician!
We also have Mr Harry Pate, he comes into school once a week to deliver a Disability Awareness Programme. He works with a large group of children with disabilities, delivering structured sports-based lessons. The children love the sessions and we are very proud of the children’s progress as the course has progressed.
We recently had a new BFC in the Community member come into the school with Mr Pate. As he left, he reflected upon his visit to our school: “St James’ is a very welcoming school. The children were really engaged throughout the session. This is the first school that I have visited with lots of children as part of my career progression up to NCIS events and it is a really great school to help me progress.”
Burnley FC in the Community have also completed sessions on inclusion and awareness with the Year 5 pupils. The key goal of the sessions was to make all children taking part aware that everyone is equal. The weeks were set out as follows:
1. Introduction and overview
2. Difference discussion
3. Barriers to participate
5. Review and presentation of certificates
