Fundamental Movement Skills

The Lancashire key 10 Fundamental Movement Skills are:
  • Runnng
  • Hopping
  • Skipping
  • Jumping
  • Underarm Throw
  • Overarm Throw
  • Rolling a Ball 
  • Bouncing a Ball
  • Kicking a Ball
  • Catching
 
Children are expected to master these skills by the end of KS1 (Year 2). In EYFS, children are introduced to '5 under 5'. We focus on 5 of these Fundamental Movement Skills to prepare the children to develop their skills further, so they start to apply their learning in Key Stage 1.
 
The EYFS 5 Under 5 Skills are: 
  • Run
  • Hop
  • Jump
  • Underarm/Overarm Throw
  • Catch

In Key Stage 2, children then apply these mastered skills to game-like activities. They will develop attacking and defending skills, using prior FMS, and apply them to Core Tasks. Children will have plenty of opportunity to master these important skills.
