Year 1

Well, what a start to this school year we have had in Elm Class. We are so proud of how well everyone has settled in and worked so hard. We have enjoyed such a great range of activities.
In Year 1, we were surprised early on in the term to find lots of items abandoned in our classroom! This was followed by a letter from The Troll Professor who needed our help to write and replace the books he had lost. We read Troll Swap by Leigh Hodkinson, found out all we could about trolls and wrote some detailed information posters. The Troll Professor was delighted with our hard work! In Science, we have been finding out the human body and its senses. We enjoyed comparing whether we could complete activities with all our senses or not. In History, we explored what schools were like in the past and compared them to modern day schools.
In Reception, we have begun learning lots of sounds and are now very good at identifying them and blending to read words. We have read Shark in the Park by Nicki Sharrat. We made our own telescopes so we could be like Timothy Pope. We are now beginning to write sentences about things we can see at the park. In Maths, we have been learning about numbers up to 5. We can recognise, write and represent the number. We particularly enjoyed writing the numbers with chalk and counting the number of beats on the drum.
There are many more highlights in Elm Class including our glockenspiels band, a very special retelling of the creation story and making puppets in DT.
