Elm Class have had a great start to 2026! We have been so pleased with how well everyone has approached their work and we have seen some fantastic pieces of work.

 

We read The Dragon Machine by Hellen Ward and received a letter from The Master of the Dragons needing our help. We wrote a set of instructions about how to care for a pet dragon in order to be invited onto the Dragon Adoption programme. We have extended our knowledge of numbers and worked hard to solve additions and subtractions. In Science, we have been finding out about materials and describing their properties. We have started to identify what materials will be best for different functions. In History, we have found out about different explorers. We found out about their journeys, how they travelled and why they were brave.

In Reception, we are continuing to build on the sounds we know and are now very good at reading words confidently. We have read lots of books linked to our topics including ones about people who help us. We are now continuing to write longer sentences that make sense. In Maths, we have continued to learn about numbers up to 10. We can recognise, write, and represent the numbers. We are using lots of resources and manipulatives to help us build up visual memory.

 

There are many more highlights in Elm Class including keeping ourselves safe in PSHE, designing and making stable structures and junk models in DT, lots of fundamental movements in PE and a few exciting new street dances.
